Systems Description

The Zero 360 family of car fire extinguishers use DuPont FE-36 liquified gas as the extinguishing medium. This gas is in widespread use throughout the world as a fire-fighting medium and has been tested and approved against the SFI 17.1 specification. It is also homologated by the FIA for international motorsport and used by the majority of world championship teams in all motorsport categories.

The SFI approved systems come in 2 sizes - 5lbs and 10lbs. They are available in 5lbs and 10lbs with mechanical pull cable activation, and 10lbs automatic operation. Both sizes discharge through 2 nozzles strategically positioned according to the identified risk areas.

The mechanical systems employ up to 2 pull cables and the total discharge valve locks into the open position upon activation.

The automatic version - Zero Zone - has a multi-directional automatic discharge valve for fuel cell coverage.

When a sudden rise in temperature is detected the Zero Zone valve opens delivering the agent through two specially designed discharge nozzles. Strategic placement of these nozzles ensures optimum coverage of the fuel cell is achieved.

The Zero Zone automatic valve has been designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of the SFI specification and does not make use of the commercial sprinkler head often found in office installations. As with all of the systems major components the Zero Zone automatic valve is precision CNC machined for optimum quality and performance. The system includes an in-line dry break connection so that the automatic valve can be removed without discharging the system.

All Lifeline Zero 360 gas systems and handheld car fire extinguishers use compression discharge (CD) technology. In our SFI systems the extinguishant is contained in an internal bladder and is kept separate from the propelling gas (nitrogen).

On activation the pressurising nitrogen compresses the bladder and the extinguishing gas is discharged in a very consistent flow. This also ensures that pure FE-36 is discharged through the nozzles and not contaminated by the propellant, which could degrade the system performance. Unlike traditional dip tube discharge systems the bladder system is not dependant on attitude and will operate in any angle.
